[We spent most of the evening working on picking characters, generating characters, filling out character sheets, and filling out an index card for each character for use in initiative queues and such. But we did in fact do a fair bit of adventuring towards the end.]

The Devil in the Mists Part 1.

Setting: Town of Fair Haven

Characters:

At the bathhouse, townsman Canton tells the party a bit about Fair Haven: About fifty years ago, Lord Gregor disappeared and blue mist began to emerge from the sewers. Fair Haven keeps shrinking as townsfolk leave or fall ill from the mist. The mist grows worse every day. North of town are some ruins where Lord Gregor lived.

The mist afflicts Lana, Kresh, Lashari [-2 str & con while in town].

The party decides to explore the ruins. The stone walls appear badly broken up and burned, probably from angry townsfolk. The floor is overgrown with weeds. Lana finds a journal. Lashari finds a wooden box with a solid silver tea set [not magical].

It’s dark, we hear owls hooting. Shadows emerge from the wall, attacking Kresh and Lashari. Lashari attacks the shadow, which fades back into the wall. The other shadow overcomes Kresh, who is rendered immobile. Lana and Yohdoh run to help Kresh. Ran attacks the wall, which collapses and reveals the (quite shocked) shadow, which Lashari defeats. Lana and Yodoh defeat the other shadow, and Yodoh casts a spell to partially restore Kresh.

The Devil in the Mists Part 2

Setting: Town and sewers of Fair Haven

Characters:

An invitation to tea

At the ruins, the party discovers a scroll case (White—bone? with gold caps, labeled “Gregor”. Magical.) containing 5 arcane scrolls, parceled out among the party:
  • 2 haste
  • 2 gaseous form
  • 1 disguise self

Councilman Canton had earlier given the party permission to use an abandoned town guard barracks. The party returns to the barracks, a long narrow room with beds, usable mattresses, no sheets or pillows, footlockers, wrought iron chairs, and awoken door (no lock yet).

The azure mist affects: Lashari, Snu-Snu, Tomorra, Zook

Krune (in the form of a dire badger!) sees a young boy running up to the party. The boy says, “I was told to bring this to you,” gives Krune a note, and dashes away. The note reads, “Please come to my office right now. It’s urgent. —Canton.” Tomorra leads the party through the mist to the councilman’s office and bangs on the door with her walking stick. A man in plate mail comes out of the mist, sword unsheathed, demanding, “What are you doing here?” Tomorra shows him the note, and the man knocks on the door. The door opens, revealing an elderly man in livery uniform. He lets the party in, and introduces himself as Zoffrey. “The master is waiting for you.” The mansion is elegantly furnished. The mist doesn’t enter the mansion (or the barracks).

Councilman Canton invites the party to tea, including kippers and scones. Tomorra complains of her bursitis and Canton requests Zoffrey give her a flask of his private formula [10 doses of pain elixir: 30 min +2 hp & +2 save vs azure mist].

Canton shows the party a map of the sewers. He is unaware of the journal and its contents. “We don’t know exactly what’s causing the mist, there are tales of devils and such, but who knows?”

Snu-Snu: “How room so fresh?”

Canton: “We had someone put together a spell that keeps the mist out for a day.”

“Might we have a scroll of it?”

Canton: “Zoffrey?”

Zoffrey: “We have a small number, sir. Of course, if we give any to these adventurers, that leaves fewer for the house.”

Canton sends Zoffrey to fetch some scrolls for the party. While Zoffrey is away, Canton tells them more about the map. Zoffrey returns, and cleans up after Krune pooping on the fine imported rug. When he finishes with that, he hands two scrolls to the party. [2 scrolls of azure mist protection level 3, keeps mist away from 2500 sq ft from a point for 24 h] Canton offers the party 250 gp each to investigate the source.

Snu-Snu: “How many go before?”

The party bids him up to 300gp.

Look like an angel…

The party climbs down the icky, slimy, sewer. Dripping water can be heard to the north, crimson light glows from the tunnel to the west.

We find an everburning torch. Lana notices the walls have drawings showing ancient battles including aquatic humanoids, that Tomorra believes are locathah. Lashari explores the tunnel to the west. The room to the west has a statue of an angel upon a pedestal, and holes in the wall with dark rusty stains. There is a small dais before the pedestal with a nine-pointed star. Lashari detects powerful arcane magic from the statue and the dais, and notices that the statue is demonic, not angelic. Three chains are attached to the dais. One of them is attached to a book, the others to two sets of manacles. At the base of the pedestal is an inscription in Common:

Become the prisoner, and you shall gaze upon truth.
Become the prisoner, and you shall be set free.

Reptilian scales, not feathers, and small, sharp fangs protrude from the mouth. It appears to be similar to a bone devil in some ways, but not in others; perhaps it is a representation of Sareth’tuel. Lashari blasts one of the chains for a bit.

Lashari continues on to the room to the north of the statue room, which is covered in a couple feet of fetid water. The are four onyx statues of locathah in the corners of the room. The males each wield a trident, the females wear spiked crowns. Lashari returns.

Snu-Snu puts a manacle on her left wrist. Nothing Happens. She puts the other manacle on her right wrist, and the book floats into the air. Panels open up at the sides of the statue, shooting darts at everyone in the room. Words start forming on the book (again in Common):

The angel lies, and the devil cries,
For loss, and for misery
Tears, they rise, from three bright eyes,
Of blood, of envy, and sea
Open these eyes with three jewels that defy
The dark lord of insanity
Watch the angel arise as the devil dies
And chain rampant mists once free

After one round, the words fade, the book sinks to the ground, the manacles release, the panels close. Lana and Zook have taken str damage from the purple worm poison in the darts (Lana was taken down to zero str). Zook restores some str to each of them.

The party goes to the north of the entrance. There is a 10’ high midden heap in the NE corner. Krune notices some monster in the garbage. Snu-Snu, Lashari, and Lana attack the mound with melee weapon, eldritch blast, and cold breath, respectively. The monster lashes out with a pseudopod at Snu-Snu and grabs her in a crushing grip. She breaks free, and Lashari and Lana continue their attack upon the mysterious refuse entity.

Setting: sewers of Fair Haven

[Everyone goes up to level 7. Considerable time was expended figuring out how to do this, on characters not necessarily of one’s own making. Checking the character sheets for correctness is advisable. Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited.]

The Shambling Mound

Upon defeating the shambling mound, Krune roots about in its remains and finds a burlap sack containing a brooch. Lashari detects its magic aura, and Lana identifies it as a brooch of shielding. Krune wears the tattered rags and Tomorra wears the brooch.

Sahuagin Surprise

Snu-snu advocates exploring the room containing the sahuagin statues. Tomorra begins searching the room. She detects a trapped floor plate and disarms it. Moving on to the rest of the room, she accidentally triggers another floor plate. The trap releases a poison gas that immediately weakens her [-1 CON] and may grow worse. [Some post-hoc spell memorization was adjusted to something more sensible.] In the center of the room lie three boxes, chained together with a padlock.

Just as the party begin to deal with this, Snu-Snu (at the head of the line) and Krune (sloppily bringing up the rear) hear the sound of humanoids approaching. Snu-Snu draws her fullblade in preparation. Seeing this, Lashari makes herself unseeable and scouts ahead around the corner. She sees three sahuagin sneaking toward the party, armed with morningstars.

Do You Like Fish Sticks?

Lana breathes her Entangling Exhalation to snare and damage the first sahuagin as it comes within view and is temporarily shocked by the sight of Snu-Snu. From the other direction, another sahuagin appears and attacks Krune, who shifts in form from a large badger to a small dinosaur. Snu-Snu, Krune, and the sahuagin strike at each other to little effect. Then another sahuagin appears, wearing somewhat less dilapidated items and wielding a heavy crossbow.

While this is going on, Zook (naughty cleric who forgot to study Remove Poison) works to stabilize Tomorra’s condition. Hraknar assists him, and they succeed in preventing her constitution from deteriorating further. Zook then turns to picking the lock in the sahuagin statue room.

Three sahuagin are defeated. The elite sahuagin decides to bravely run away. Lana chases him into an ominous alter room, whose floor is littered with broken statues of fish-like gods.

The Devil in the Mists Part 4

Setting: sewers of Fair Haven

South Team

Krune, in the form of a small dinosaur, was getting ready to charge the one sahuagin visible to the south team. The sahuagin suddenly realized it needed to be somewhere else, and scooted around the corner. Krune chased it down the hallway, so it cowered in fear and begged for mercy. Merciful adventurers that we are, Hraknar tied it up and searched it, liberating a small white pony with a silver dragonscale saddle from some peculiar dimensional pocket the sahuagin was carrying. Zook appropriated the pony, being the only member of the south team small enough to ride it. Hraknar scouted ahead to the next intersection and found another room. The team questioned the sahuagin prisoner, who indicated the room to be a temple.

The area just inside the door was covered in two feet of water, but the floor sloped up towards the back of the room, where a black marble alter rested on the dry floor, approximately ten feet wide and five feet across. A brass idol of a humanoid with outstretched wings and a tail rested upon the altar, glowing green. Broken statues of aquatic humanoids littered the floor. Because of the depth of the water, Zook and Tomorra were reluctant to enter the room. Hraknar grumbled and lifted Zook in one hand and Zook’s pony in the other, so that Zook could better inspect the altar. Zook clarified that the idol was a representation of the devil lord Bazgorca. Lacking a better means of transportation (and not wanting to get her boots soaked with sewer water), Tomorra climbed onto the sahuagin’s shoulders and commanded it to carry her to the altar. She found a locked panel hidden behind the altar. Zook attempted in vain to pick the lock, so Hraknar forced it open with a dagger. Inside, the party found:

  • 12 pieces of coral (75gp each)
  • a metal tube sealed with wax, containing:

Tomorra informed them that the Conjunction of the Three is a conjunction of three stars that recurs every month, and will happen in two more days. Hraknar then went off to find the North Team for a further inspection of the idol and the rest of the temple.

North Team

Lana had chased the sahuagin priestess around a corner into a room. A 40-foot-deep pool took up most of the room. Two mail-wearing sahuagin screamed when she entered and two tentacles erupted from the depths of the pool. Lana used her breath weapon to entangle the tentacles and the sahuagin that she chased into the room. Lashari’s eldritch blast, Snu-Snu’s fullblade, and Lana’s fiery breath drove the octopus back to the bottom of the pool, squirting ink in distress. Lashari jumped to the ledge behind the sahuagin priestesses to position herself for a better attack. With her massive reach, Snu-Snu was able to strike at the sahuagin from the safety of the doorway. Together, they were able to kill the sahuagin. Lashari then opened the chest on the ledge, which contained:

  • a prayer book (500gp)
  • 5 black pearls (500gp each)
  • a large emerald, in fact an important key (1000gp)
  • coins (3300gp, 4170 sp)

The sahuagin priestesses carried:

  • 2 mwk morningstars
  • 2 mwk chain mail
  • 2 silver (un)holy symbols (to Bazgorca)
  • 2 heavy crossbows
  • a clock of minor displacement (20% miss chance) (24kgp)

Not willing to let the octopus get away, Snu-Snu dived into the pool after it. Lana transformed herself into a Locathah and followed her. The octopus jetted to a hole in the side of the pool. Snu-Snu searched the floor of the pool and retrieved

  • a small leather pouch
  • gold coins (2gp)

As Locathah-Lana came within sight, the octopus slammed shut a portcullis in the tunnel, slipped further away, and closed another behind it. Snu-Snu and Lana gave up in frustration and swam back up to the surface. While Lana shifted back to her natural form, Snu-Snu opened the pouch to reveal some sparkly white powder. Lana identified this as diamond dust (5kgp), a material component for raising the dead.

United Team

Hraknar strolled into the pool room and led the north team back to the temple. Lashari detected a faint aura of evocation magic upon the idol. Lana identified it as the merely a cantrip emitting green light, so Lashari blasted the idol to bits.
The united team also recovered a number of tridents, combat nets, and bolts for the heavy crossbows.

Hi everyone,

Braving the rain, a number of folks attended the game yesterday. In
case you couldn’t make it, here are some abbreviated (and definitely
incomplete) notes:

The party snuck north to a room of statues, encountered a four-armed
sahuagin with a taste for door frames, slew the beast after it entered
a frenzy, placed the gems collected from the dungeon into a statue’s
face after the astrological conjunction, and was promptly sucked from
the room by a shadowy void.

It’s unclear what will happen next, but the party has gained a level.
Our characters are not dead (yet), so have very happy holidays and a
great new year!

The Devil in the Mists Part 6

Setting: a mysterious dining room and environs

The characters popped into existence in a mysterious room and babbled incoherently to each other for a bit while the players struggled to re-do their character sheets as appropriate for level 8.

Elegant meals were strewn upon the tables, and fine paintings and tapestries bedecked the walls. Lana touched a roast chicken and a glass of wine, and detected that they were not what they appeared. Lashari discovered that all the contents of the room were under an illusion and were really rotten and decrepit.

Three stuck or locked doors blocked exit from the room. Snu-Snu attempted to break down a side door while Zook worked on picking the lock of a double door in the center. Lana’s new Lesser Invocation, Voidsense, revealed an invisible stalker appearing to attack Zook. Lana warned the party, then breathed on the enemy to little effect. Snu-Snu tried to grapple the invisible thing but was shaken off. The invisible stalker dealt terrible blows to Zook and Tomorra. Hraknar slashed the monster with mighty swings of his greatsword, and with a few more attacks, the unseeable entity was defeated. Zook and Tomorra breathed a sigh of relief as they healed back up to a more comfortable status.

Lashari followed one of the side doors down a passageway to a stone door, and Lana got bored and came back after travelling down the passageway for the other door for a bit. Meanwhile, Zook’s gnomish curiousity in the great hall resulted in that accursed bane of all adventurers: bad poetry:

Through ethereal mirrors, the battle is won!
Go forth with valor to victory!
With pairs of swords drawn, charge straight towards the sun!
The pyramid coins shall buy your souls free.

Thusly was Zook accosted by an ethereal presence that projected itself from a painting on the wall and showed her an image of four coins. She turned undead mightily and was harassed no further in that room by ghostly verses.

Krune came snuffling in to the great hall to see if there were any interesting1 things to wallow in. Failing that, he transformed into a blink dog and blinked onto the large crystal chandelier suspended from the ceiling. He discovered a packet and blinked back to the party with it, hoping to find something interesting1 inside. However, the packet was found to contain a dragon spirit cincture. Lana performed the ancient whisper gnome dance of celebration while the others, envious of her beauty and good fortune, made rude and impudent remarks about the name of the magical item. Krune whined upon discovering that he had lost his miasma and filth.

The Devil in the Mists Part 7

Setting: hall of bad poetry

An additional magical item was discovered, a phylactery of change, which was distributed to Tomorra.

After the hall of bad poetry, Zook unlocked a one of a pair of doors to a ruby-studded room. Within were three gold thrones, a statue of an angel, and a brass brazier.

Hraknar swung his morningstar at the statue and fell into confusion. The statue suddenly appeared more sinister and attacked Hraknar. Lashari and Lana attacked the statue, followed by Hraknar when he shook off the confusion. He was heavily injured by the statue, though, and Snu-Snu pushed her way forward to take his place fighting the statue, which soon topped into fragments. Zook healed Hraknar. The walls were covered in a thousand small fake rubies, and 6 medium real rubies. In a drawer of the statue, Tomorra also found a large ruby with a stripe, which may be a key to a puzzle later on. Zook picked the lock at the door at the other end of the room, revealing an empty hallway with another pair of doors at the end. Tomorra heard a rustling noise on the other side of the door. Meanwhile, Krune found nothing interesting1 nearby, so began piddling on the walls to mark its territory.

Forcing their way through the door, the party discovered a room with a large magical cage containing a beautiful with large wings, a bow slung over her shoulder. Tomorra recognized her as an erinyes, a type of devil. The erinyes asks the party whether the ghost in the hall of bad poetry spoke of the coins, then taunted the party by jingling a small pouch. Hraknar shot at her, but the arrow fell to the floor. Lana sensed the shape of an arcane wall of force within the cage and pointed out its dimensions to the party. The erinyes taunted the party to come into the cage with her. Lana breathed at the erinyes, but here breath weapon was stopped by the field of force. Hraknar ran in and slashed the erinyes with his sword, while Krune blinked in behind her. The erinyes sprayed Hraknar with greasy black fluid from her fingertips.

The erinyes sprayed Hraknar again, but the dwarf slew her with another might slash of his greatsword. She was carrying

  • a bag of pyramid coins
  • a flaming longbow (distributed to Hraknar)

While the battle with the Baatezu was underway, Zook and Snu-Snu continued around behind the cage to deal with doors on the other side of the room. Zook found the doors to be stuck, so Snu-Snu tried to bash down the doors, missed and almost hurt the gnome, and knocked down the door on her second attempt. At the end of another hallway, they found a room with a cloaked ferryman in a skiff, holding out his hand for payment.

Unwilling to leave evil monsters unslain (and treasure unlooted), the party backtracked to a pair of doors at the end of a different hallway, and picked the lock. The fetid room (Yum! thinks Krune) beyond contained a throne with dried blood staining the floor before it and four unblinking red eyes. Thousands of skulls mostly grouped into four large piles each reaching about twenty feet high. Hraknar shot at one of the flaming eyes with his bow, but the arrow seemed to pass through without any effect and hit the wall beyond. He switched to his morningstar and used it to crush one of the piles of skulls to bits. Lana moved into position and breathed her entangling cold breath on another pile of skulls.

Setting: bone room
Characters:

The three remaining skull piles vomited skulls at Zook and Hraknar, injuring Zook severely. Snu-Snu, Lashari, and Lana entered the room and attacked the piles. Zook attempted to turn them, but failed and chose to escape to the hallway. Hraknar finally finished off the second pile. Lana breathed fire on the two remaining piles, then Krune (in the form of a dinosaur) stomped one of them to bits. The last pile attacked Hraknar, who fell unconscious. Then Snu-Snu destroyed the last pile with her fullblade.

Snu-Snu and Tomorra searched the room and Tomorra found:
10 emeralds (500gp each)
1 scroll of reduce (3 uses)
folding ladder (20’ when extended, weighs 2 lb)
2000pp

The party then rested and healed up, restoring health and spells.

When all were ready to proceed, Zook picked the lock in a door of the bone room. The hallway beyond led the party back to the ruby room. Then the party went to the door on the other side of the ruby room, Zook picked the lock, then Hraknar went ahead and smashed down the door anyway. Going through the hallway, Zook unlocked another door, Hraknar knocked it down too. Beyond lay a room with many cruel instruments of torture, as well as the moldering corpses of four sahuagin and one chain devil. Finding nothing of practical (i.e. magical or financial) use, they returned to the bone room to inspect the portal.

Walking through the portal, the party was teleported to the ferryman’s room.
After giving the coins to the ferryman, several characters noticed the dais was engraved with a rune for travelling great distances. The party stepped upon the dais. After a blinding flash of light, the party found itself in a similar room.

A large statue of a horned devil with bat-like wings shouted:

Prisoners ye seek, and prisoners ye find,
flawed gems shall be your last key.
Four unblinking eyes, all red, rich, and blind
reveal the path that finally sets ye free.

Hraknar unfolded the ladder, laid it against the statue, ascended it, and decapitated the statue. The statue’s head flew off and rolled along the ground, and eventually stopped repeating the verse.

The room was hung with a tapestry that depicted an 8-armed devil smiling malevolently. After receiving a premonition (i.e. DM hint) that the arrangement of the devil’s hands held a clue, the party took the tapestry and stuffed it into the zippered bag of holding.

Hraknar smashed down the door, and saw a room that was mostly empty, with 6 gleaming marble pillars forming a sort of hall in the middle of the room. There was a pair of double doors at the other side of the room. Two armored angels with steel wings stood in front of the door. One charged Hraknar, its eyes glowing briefly, and activated a kind of electrical attack. Krune charged the other and grappled it. Hraknar counterattacked with his greatsword. Lana entangled the far angel while Snu-Snu ran around to attack the near one from the side. Lashari attacked the near angel with an eldritch blast. The angels counterattacked without success. Tomorra hid around the corner. Zook went up to try to dispell the angels without success. Lana breathed fire on the near angel and noticed that the fire seemed to do an unusually large amount of damage. Snu-Snu became enraged and slew the near angel with a mighty blow. The angel was able to regain its footing, and attacked Snu-Snu with its claws. Zook cast searing light upon the angel, followed by attacks from Lana, Hraknar, and Snu-Snu, who finished off this angel as well. The rest of the party fled the room until Snu-Snu calmed down. Tomorra searched the room and found nothing of interest.

Snu-snu found an anklet of translocation (Tomorra).

Zook unlocked one of the double doors, Snu-Snu peeked in. Gigantic chamber (80’ in center) deathly quiet, 12 lavish crypts, dust and cobwebs. 4 giant statues 20’ tall: horns, wings, whip-like tails, brooding crimson eyes.
Snu-Snu found another crypt in one corner, labeled Raguk Vukgilug, decorated with scenes of battle of an armored orc wearing a breastplate emblazoned with an eye. The party opened all the crypts. One marked “Tlotho Azran” contained a +1 fullblade (Snu-snu). Another crypt contained a shadow cloak (Lashari). We also found two gems (ruby and aquamarine), a total of 51 gold, plus plenty of dust and bones. Panel and secret passageway under crypt of Roger the Orc. Snu-Snu opened the sarcophagus. Inside was an armored orc. Suddenly, the eyes of the orc opened wide. Tomorra shrieked, “Vampire!” and ran back to the door. The party members all begin to attack the vampiric orc, which transforms into a gaseous form and floats across the room. Snu-Snu chased after it and slew it. The party knew that the vampire would rematerialize in its crypt in about an hour, so we investigated another secret door in the center of the far wall, which led to a hallway, and a door in the side room that led to a treasure hoard. A bloodstained throne lay in the center of the room and treasure was strewn about.

The many exotic treasures found in this room include:

  • golden circlet with 4 aquamarines
  • carved harp of exotic wood with ivory inlay and zircon gems
  • eyepatch with mock eye of sapphire and moonstone
  • gold music box
  • ivory statuette
  • 5 sets masterwork chainmail

  • 2390 pp

and the following magical items:

  • potion of bless weapon (Snu-Snu)
  • ring of protection +2 (Zook)
  • scroll of summon monster I (Tomorra)
  • potion of spider climb (3) (Zook, Snu-Snu, Tomorra)
  • scroll of summon swarm (3) (Tomorra)
  • scroll of identify (3) (zipper)
  • scroll of ghoul touch (3) (Lashari)
  • potion of invisibility (Lana)
  • potion of cure moderate wounds (2) (Snu-Snu)

After looting all the worthwhile items, the party destroyed the altar and returned to Roger’s crypt. We waited for him to rematerialize, and simultaneously Lashari attacked him with an eldritch blast while Snu-Snu staked him. Roger was found to be carrying:

  • +2 full plate armor (Hraknar)
  • masterwork heavy steel shield

Setting: beyond the sarcophagus of Raguk Vukgilug
Characters:

  • Krune master of many forms (currently a dinosaur)
  • Tomorra human factotum/archivist
  • Zook gnome cleric
  • Snu-Snu half-ogre fighter/ranger/barbarian/frenzied barbarian/lion totem
  • Lana whispergnome dragonfire adept
  • Lashari warlock (shadow) wood-elf

Zook opened the secret passageway beneath Roger’s sarcophagus and entered it. Tomorra followed and unlocked the door at the end. Lana followed them into a cell with straw on the floor and a locked portcullis, apparently one of 8 in the room. After a couple of attempts, Zook picked the lock and stepped through into the hallway and Lana followed; they felt a terrible chill.

Zook continued on toward the door on the far wall. A desiccated arm reached out from the cell by the door and touched Zook. Zook alerted the party that there was a scourge corpse with a cold aura. She recognized the scourge corpse as Lord Gregor Merengar, who had gone missing recently. Lashari entered the room and eldritch blasted the scourge corpse, then Lana tried to entangle it, but discovered her fire breath did no damage (and alerted the party to this). Krune worked his way forward. The scourge corpse touched Krune and opened its cell’s portcullis. Zook then used turn undead against the monster, which cowered in place. Lashari noticed the magic aura in the room (presumably due to the cold) and some magic on each portcullis, as well as the cell with the monster. Snu-snu then attacked the monster. Lana tried again with her cold weapon, and was livid that the monster was immune to that energy type as well. She shouted this to the party before storming back to wait with Tomorra. Krune then lunged forward and attacked the monster and astonished the entire party by actually killing the thing.

Sadly, Zook informed the party that the corpse will regenerate in about 18 days. In order to destroy it permanently, its summoner must release its bonds. The party searched the room and tossed the corpse in Cell F, away from either door. Snu-Snu felt a wave of glory course through her and her fullblade (now +1 holy). The party noticed crude sketches of devils and demons on the walls. Krune added his own personal mark to the mural.

Zook’s attempt to pick the lock on the door resulted in a spray of silly string. The party then continued on through the door, down the hallway beyond, to another door, ending in a diamond-shaped chamber. There was a statue within of an 8-armed devil with hands palm-up. Suspecting this was a gem-keyed teleportation artifact, the party retreated to examine the other rooms on the same level.

Opening one door let out a blast of frigid air. The party stepped out onto an icy ledge. Krune noticed an extremely large green snake with a humanlike front, which lunged toward Krune. Lana pushed forward and transformed herself into a huge Constrictor Naga, tipping the ramp down and falling into the pit of icy water. Lashari detected magic keeping the room cold. The naga struck at Lana.
